Besides having one of the best reprises in Disney animated history, Jafar is a classic villain. Pure evil, no redeeming qualities, and ultimately, defeated by his own hubris.

Jafar wants to be the most powerful being in the Universe, so he can do whatever he wants to whomever he wants, with no consequences. The street rat, Aladdin, understands enough about the human psyche that Jafar will jump at the opportunity to fulfill his evil desire without thinking about the ramifications.

Not to spoil this 30-year-old movie (how is that even possible??), but Jafar falls into the trap of trading everything for power, only to be a prisoner of his own wish. To become a genie means having phenomenal cosmic power, but also an itty bitty living space.

This thirst for power is seen in the real world, with dictators, politicians, and other unsavory characters doing all they can to gain and hold on to power. Usually, we can see through the bull excrement and realize this person is only concerned with retaining their influence. They have little to no regard for the people they purport to lead.

Strangely, there is one area of life where we refuse to recognize this practice.  Not only that, but we have gone to great lengths in justifying and even sanctioning this abuse of authority as morally right.
